No Child Left Behind!

Every workshop at Learning WHEELS is research-based. Each workshop, game and activity is built around the basic skills required by the state standards being tested in the states where we work, as well as the research of noted brain experts, such as Eric Jensen, Robert Sylwester, and Marion Diamond. Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences is also a cornerstone of each workshop, game and activity.

Content area research used for the math, science, reading and writing workshops and activities includes materials such as:

·       Preventing Reading Difficulties in Young Children

·       Balanced Literacy

·       The Four Blocks Method

·       The Art of Teaching Writing by Lucy Caulkins

·       In the Middle by Nancy Atwell

·       Donald Graves’ Craft Lessons

·       Math standards from the National Council of Teachers for Mathematics

·       The Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, and

·       The Centers for Educator Development in Texas

·       Prereading Activities for Content Area Reading and Learning by John E. Readence, David W. Moore and Robert J. Rickelman

·       Educating Everybody’s Children:  Diverse Teaching Strategies for Diverse Learners, edited by Robert W. Cole

·       Classroom Instruction That Works by Robert J. Marzano, Debra J. Pickering, and Jane E. Pollock

Consultants also bring a wide variety of knowledge to each workshop based on their own work experiences, readings and research.
